Clyde Watermelon Festival 2018

The first Watermelon Carnival in the state of Kansas, and possibly the world, was held in Clyde, Kansas in 1899. The Watermelon Festival began when watermelons were a choice crop on sandy, river bottom land and could be easily shipped out by rail. This Labor Day weekend marks the 119th Annual Clyde Watermelon Festival, now sponsored by the Clyde Chamber of Commerce. Traditions continue like the Saturday morning parade and free watermelon feed on Main Street, just like the first festival. Hundreds of people gather every Labor Day weekend for the 4-day celebration. Visitors look forward to the parade, barbeques, demolition derby, dances, contests, games, and socializing. The weekend will start
