Five years ago, Susie Haver, Concordia, began collecting Kansas Centennial items in anticipation of the Kansas Sesquicentennial. Stop by the Museum Annex to view her fun collection of over 50 items, including cups, plates, bolo ties, an ashtray and more. Susie’s Kansas Trivia of the week:Omar Knedlick, who lived in Barnes, Belleville & Coffeyville invented the technology that combines carbonated water, syrup, and pressure into slush. Billons of his slushy treats have been sold as an Icee or Slurpee. The first forward pass in Kansas football history was thrown in December 1905 in a football game between Washburn University and Fairmount College. Charles Curtis, the only person of Native American descent to serve as Vice President of the U.S., was a jockey before studying to become a lawyer. Curtis served in the US House and Senate. In 1928 he was elected VP under Herbert Hoover. Curtis was born near Topeka on land owned by his grandmother, who was half French and half Kansa.
