Orphan Train Rider Statues Were Prepared for the Solar Eclipse
This past week, you may have seen the Orphan Train Rider Statues sporting brightly colored protective eye-wear. The reason for the googles was in preparation for the solar eclipse which took place on August 21, 2017.
Special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses” or hand-held solar viewers were required to view the eclipse. Last week, Cloud County Tourism helped prepare the Orphan Train Rider Statues for the solar eclipse by providing googles to each bronze child.
The solar eclipse attracted visitors from all over the world to view the rare phenomenon. Concordia, KS saw a drastic increase in hotel reservations and highway traffic as travelers passed through on their way to Nebraska.
