SUMMARY:National Orphan Train Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Join us June 2-4th for our 19th Annual Celebration of Orphan Train Riders! This year we are focusing on the amazing women that participated in the orphan train movement\, from helping orphanages and trains run smoothly to riding the rails themselves. We are excited to hear from three visiting speakers\, Renee Wendinger\, Greg Markway\, and Larry Blochlinger! We will also tour NOTC\, Camp Concordia POW\, the Brown Grand\, and orphan train sites around Cloud County! \nRegistration required for certain events. SUMMARY:DNA Genealogy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a workshop about using DNA in your family history research! Tickets are $10 in advance or at the door. (NOTE: Participants of the Orphan Train Celebration taking place that weekend are automatically registered for this workshop\, and tickets are included in that registration.)\nWe’ll be hearing from two “experts” who have used DNA to discover parts of their family tree.\nLarry Blochlinger\, a Concordia adoptee\, used DNA to find his birth parents and connect with some of his biological cousins.\nGreg Markway is a descendant of an orphan train rider and runs the Facebook group “Orphan Train DNA”. Greg used DNA to uncover his orphan train rider’s story and learn more about his family history. He’s helped many other do the same!
