SUMMARY:‘A Taste of Ireland―The Irish Music & Dance Sensation’
DESCRIPTION:A Taste of Ireland – The Irish Music & Dance Sensation\nSunday\, May 4\, 2025 at 3:00PM \nAfter premiering Off-Broadway last season\, ‘A Taste of Ireland―The Irish Music & Dance Sensation’ returns to stages across the USA in 2025\, performing the show that has entertained thousands around the globe. Laugh\, cry and jig into the night with a production that is Celtic\, for this generation. \nPerformed by former World Irish dance champions\, and featuring dancers from Lord of the Dance and Riverdance\, ‘A Taste of Ireland’ transports the audience through the story of Ireland’s tumultuous history delivered with a pint of Irish wit. Watch world-class performers blend melodic folk mash-ups\, live jaw-dropping acapella tap battles and heartwarming story telling. \nFeaturing revamped classics of Danny Boy\, Tell Me Ma\, Wild Rover\, and many more well known songs\, the show’s reimagined contemporary score blossoms alongside the brash Irish charm of the live dance cast. ‘A Taste of Ireland’ merges cultural traditions\, modern flair\, and craic galore\, to deliver a performance that has been leaving audiences across the globe jigging on their feet for the last decade. \nWith over one hundred and fifty 5-star Facebook reviews\, ‘A Taste of Ireland’ is exactly what it promises: a taste of everything you love about Ireland with a generous helping of more! ’A Taste of Ireland’ is a show with 100% live singing and dancing that bridges the gap between storytelling\, modern Irish dance\, tap and contemporary dance to tell a historic story\, live on stage. \nWith a strictly limited USA run\, see ‘A Taste of Ireland’ this fall for limited performances before it takes off around the globe once again. \n‘Witness the birth of a nation told through rhythm and beat\, with the cry of the Vikings as they were brought to defeat\, the rise and fall of the rebellion the show tells the tale\, trapped were the Irish\, watch them dance from the jail. For the nation fought free from Dundalk to Tralee\, they sing and they dance through the night full of glee. For Ireland\, there was not a nation quite like her\, hold on to your seat\, feel Ireland’s passion and fire.’ \n**please note: musical instruments are subject to change from performance to performance \nTickets range $35-$65 each.

SUMMARY:Cook Series: Native American Artist Monte Yellow Bird (Black Pinto)
DESCRIPTION:Monte Yellow Bird Sr.\, a Native American artist\, will present “If You’re Going To Shine\, Shine Brightly\,” at Cloud County Community College’s Cook Series on Thursday\, April 24. The event will be at 7:00 p. m. at the college’s Cook Theatre on the Concordia campus. All Cook Series events are free and open to the public. \nMonte Yellow Bird\, Sr. signs his work with the name he was given through ceremony\, Black Pinto Horse. He is devoted to a positive expression of the harmonic balance between humanity and nature. He is the son of Willard (Wolf Trail) Yellow Bird\, a descendant of Bears Teeth & Iron Bear and Magdalen (Corn Tassel) Youngbird/Yellow Bird a descendant of Strikes Enemy & Sitting Bear. \nWhile in high school\, his math teacher recognized his artistic talent\, introducing him to the renowned Institute of American Indian Arts of Santa Fe\, New Mexico. As a 16-year-old that had never left the reservation\, he credits this experience as life-changing saying\, “It evoked a pride of my culture & a new self-identity.” \nYears later\, Yellow Bird furthered his art & history studies at North Dakota State University in Fargo\, majoring in History Education with an Art minor. In 2002\, he earned a BFA from Minot State University in North Dakota. \nSince 2004 he has owned and operated his fine arts and educational company\, Black Pinto Horse Fine Arts. Yellow Bird is represented by galleries\, museums\, and educational institutions both nationally and internationally.  He attends prestigious Indian Art Markets such as Santa Fe Indian Market\, the Heard\, and Eiteljorg Museums\, and has collectors worldwide\, such as art in the permanent collection of the Volkenkunde Museum of Leiden Netherlands and the Nelson- Atkins Museum in Kansas City. Through his art and teaching\, he offers us a multitude of gifts\, and his optimism shines in his motto: “We are on this earth for such a short time\, if we are going to shine\, shine brightly. \nThis year marks the 32nd anniversary of the Charles and Marian Cook Series at Cloud County Community College. The Cooks were travelers who wanted to bring the world to those who could not travel themselves. More than 80 events have been presented through the sponsorship of the Cook Foundation and the Division of Humanities\, Social Sciences and Business at Cloud. It was always Marian Cook’s wishes that all Cook Series events be free and open to the public. \nFor more information\, contact Brenton Phillips\, dean of Humanities\, Social Sciences and Business at Cloud\, at 785.243.1435\, ext. 244\, or by email at bphillips@cloud.edu.

SUMMARY:Two Lights for Tomorrow
DESCRIPTION:“Listen\, my children\, and you shall hear\nOf the midnight ride of Paul Revere\,\nOn the eighteenth of April\, in Seventy-Five:\nHardly a man is now alive\nWho remembers that famous day and year.”\n\n\nHenry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote these words around 1860 describing the night of Paul Revere’s ride. Paul Revere was dispatched from Lexington to Boston to find how the British were coming. You will recall that one lantern placed in the bell tower of Boston’s Christ Church (also known as the Old North Church) meant they were coming by land\, and two meant by sea.\n\n\nIn honor of America250\, the Concordia DAR is asking everyone to place two lanterns (or other lights) in their windows or on their porches the night of Friday\, April 18th.
