Riders on the Orphan Train to Present Free Concert at The Broadway Plaza

A free multi-media presentation will be given on Saturday, August 26 at 7 p.m. at The Broadway Plaza by Riders on the Orphan Train, the official outreach group of the National Orphan Train Complex.

At 6 p.m. a sloppy joe and hot dog meal will be provided before the event. The cost for the meal is $10 per person while supplies last.

Guest speakers include Novelist and Humanities Scholar Alison Moore and singer/songwriter Phil Lancaster. Together through audio and visual elements, they bring public awareness to the largely unknown chapter in American history, the Orphan Train movement.

Riders on the Orphan Train tell the story of the 250,000 orphans and unwanted children who were put on trains in New York between 1854 and 1929 and sent all over the United States to new homes. The presentation includes original music, an audio visual presentation of photographs and interviews with two surviving orphan train riders and a dramatic recitation from Moore's novel "Riders on the Orphan Train."

Stay after the presentation for an informal discussion led by Moore and Lancaster about the Orphan Train Movement and how it has shaped America as well as the American Dream.
